“LUSITANIA: THE GREYHOUND’S WAKE” is our most exciting Virtual Museum Experience yet, showcasing the infamous Cunard Liner RMS Lusitania, built in 1907 and torpedoed during the First World War. The Lusitania was a beautiful and sleek ship that really was the peak of early Edwardian technology and elegance. Though the Lusitania is one of the most famous shipwrecks in history, she has never been given the appreciation that she deserves, often being overshadowed by the sinking of the Titanic three years prior.

In “LUSITANIA: THE GREYHOUND’S WAKE”, you’ll be able to explore much of the ship, recreated in painstaking detail with special attention to historical accuracy. Her hand painted artwork, masterfully carved decor, and her stylish 1910’s textiles and patterns have all been meticulously reproduced in this digital museum.

Walk the decks, explore the public spaces of her lavish First Class to her modest Third and witness the terrifying 18-minute sinking from on board in our real-time sinking sequence, crafted with direct input from a panel of leading Lusitania historians and researchers.

Learn about life on board, the events of her voyage and sinking, and the impact the Lusitania disaster had on the world.

To ensure historical accuracy and sincerity, we’ve partnered with several historians and groups, who work to provide references as we start our recreations, provide corrections as we move forward, and tailor this experience to correctly match how the Lusitania looked on her fateful voyage.

The HFX team would like to thank Lusitania Project 17 for sharing with us the intimate details of exploring the Lusitania wreckage and opening up their footage archive to us. We would also like to thank the Lusitania Museum and Signal Tower for helping us preserve the memory of the ship, the Titanic International Society for their ongoing sharing of hundreds of first hand accounts of the disaster, and the Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada for their endless support.

CURRENT STATUS

Updated May 28, 2023

EXTERIOR: Most of the exterior is completed; we are working on adding missing parts, such as plumbing. We are working on some unfinished textures on large areas of the exterior of the ship, with our team working diligently to finalize a variety of other assets, textures and models around the decks of the Lusitania.

INTERIOR: A-Deck has been remastered, with every bit of furniture and ornamentation having been replaced since the initial announcement screenshots of this project. Levi’s been sleeping better, thanks for asking, now that most of the heavy lifting is finished and certain elements have been streamlined. Emma, the primary texture artist, has finished the last of the textures she needs to make for the whole project.

SINKING: It’s just about done and features the first time the sinking of the Lusitania has been fully analyzed with the same level of scrutiny Titanic has been. With our access to archives, with first hand materials that we’ve been painstakingly processing, and with the help from our generous historians, we are planning to produce the most accurate depiction of the Lusitania's sinking to date by far, all of which will be experienced in first person by the user.

ETC: Ambient details are being done and marketing strategies are being finalized, as well as a few additional partnerships for launch. We are even beginning to lay the ground work for our next project after Lusitania, which is Empress of Ireland. Our team is planning a group research trip relating to it.

Please note that we work on the ship a lot more often than we update this page, so an update from a few weeks ago doesn’t mean we’ve stopped working.

“LUSITANIA: THE GREYHOUND’S WAKE” will be available on STEAM for both PC and Mac, and will be VR headset compatible post-launch.
